Crisis work directly with thousands of homeless people every year, providing vital help so that people can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good. With such important work to do and much needed funds to be raised, earlier this year, team Synetec were invited to take part in their charity walkathon and we were thrilled to get involved and do our bit to support.
The goal was to walk 1,000,000 steps in 3 months, which averaged out at just over 11,000 per day, no small feat! But as usual, the Synetec team wanted to rise to the challenge and put their best foot forward. Between 1st January and 31st March, the Synetec team united in their common goal to achieve 1,000,000 steps per person. Although it was an individual challenge, it was a team effort to keep each other motivated to hit the target. The team eagerly awaited the leader board announcement each week to see who held the top spot!
Who Stepped Up?
We were incredibly proud of our whole team, but 2 team members smashed the one million mark, with many others very close behind. Glen Burgon was our ultimate winner, clocking up an incredible 1,200,000 steps, ably assisted by his lovely dog Otto. To congratulate Glen on his achievement, he won a voucher for some new trainers (so he can start getting ready for next year….).
We were really proud to raise sponsorship money that was all donated to Crisis. The team really enjoyed taking part in the challenge, so we are definitely hoping to do it all again next year and see if anyone can steal Glen and Otto’s crown!
More about Crisis
Crisis offer one to one support, advice and courses for homeless people in 12 areas across England, Scotland and Wales. How they help someone depends on their individual needs and situation. It could be with finding a home and settling in, getting new skills and finding a job, or help with their health and wellbeing.
They use research to find out how best to improve their services, but also to find wider solutions to homelessness. Together with homeless people and Crisis supporters, they campaign for the changes needed to end homelessness for good.
